Personal Change

Sabine StoneOften personal change seems much harder than it ought to be. People may have accomplished many projects successfully only to feel disappointed in themselves when they cannot do something that seems minor in comparison. What makes it worse is when friends or acquaintances explain that all it needs is willpower, the willpower to stop certain eating habits, to stop snacking at night, to not smoke the last cigarette at the end of the day, to choose different relationships.

In fact, there is no need for any negative self-evaluation. When we have habits that resist all our effort to change it just means that our conscious mind is in an argument with our ‘inner being’. Personal changes usually require the cooperation of our deeper mind. The subconscious always seems to be much stronger. In hypnosis, we can change subconscious habits that are no longer helpful.

Look at your Beliefs

freedom hypnotherapyConsider some of these statements:

  • I always have to eat late at night.
  • Nobody really likes me.
  • I can’t drive in the dark.
  • I hate walking.
  • The list is endless.

These are the sort of thoughts that run through our minds endlessly. These are also the thoughts that reflect our beliefs. When we frequently expect bad stuff to happen and frequently think negatively then we don’t even try to make the things that we truly want come true. You can challenge these kind of thoughts. Become aware of your thinking!

  • Ask yourself:
  • Is this really true?
  • Does it help me to think this?

Challenge those beliefs. The moment you do, your life may change in wonderful ways.

At times beliefs are strongly ingrained, in hypnosis we can get to the bottom of it and release whatever it is that is stopping you from being kind to yourself.

Fibromyalgia Help

fibromyalgia-helpFibromyalgia is an illness that causes fatigue and tremendous physical pain. It’s a condition that carries many different symptoms. To me it seems to be a name given by doctors for want of a better explanation for the symptoms being experienced by the patient. The symptoms of fibromyalgia appear to be quite unpredictable; some days can be perfectly fine while on others terrible pain is experienced. The pain affects the entire body and sometimes even lying still can be painful.

Fibromyalgia sufferers frequently experience sleep disturbances, morning pain and stiffness and stomach problems.

No one is born with fatigue or fibromyalgia which means it has developed over time very likely caused by different stresses and experiences in life. Emotional experiences cause our bodies to react as I have seen this over and over again in my work. When we work on the underlying root cause the physical problems usually improve or simply disappear.
During the session we find out what the causes for this condition are and that way release them during the session. One of the first things that tend to happen is that the quality of sleep improves. This in turn will help reduce tension which has an effect on other parts of the body.

There are many different ways of working with the issue of fibromyalgia, the chronic fatigue, muscular rheumatic condition or musculoskeletal pain with tenderness at points on your body.

If you feel that you would like to change the way you live please do give me a ring on 01482 870874.

Teeth grinding – Bruxism

teeth grinding problem helpBruxism is the term used for grinding and clenching the jaw. It can lead to damaged teeth but also to headaches, gum problems, tight shoulders and even earache. Some people are aware they are doing it as it happens for them while awake others don’t notice as it occurs while sleeping. They are told by partners but also notice the tension in their jaws when waking up.

Hypnosis can be very effective as it will release the tension that is causing the teeth grinding. Anxiety and tension are often the causes of bruxism. Hypnotherapy helps to get to the root cause of the problem and of course release it too. It also helps you find better ways of dealing with tension and coping with difficult situations.

Tension and anxiety are just some of the reasons that cause teeth grinding. Hypnosis can help you to change certain thought patterns and of course lower tension and release anxiety. Teeth grinding lets you know that your body is suffering stress and anxiety.

Children and hypnosis

Children are often excellent subjects when using hypnosis, meaning that they respond well to hypnotherapy. I often see children or teenagers that have been to CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) who feel helpless and powerless and whose parents are looking for an alternative to help their children.
Most. problems stem from underlying emotional issues. This is not a judgement on the family, because even with the most loving background there can be areas that have an effect on a child, whether they are aware of it or not.

There are so many issues that can be helped using hypnotherapy and that way change a child’s life. Just like adults, children can easily be regressed and that way reveal the sources of their issues. Children have to deal with many changes in their lives, like moving house, bullying, or criticism. They may have a hard time making friends, handling school, fitting in. Just like adults they react to worry and stress in different ways. Children become angry, school work suffers, they become distracted, get headaches, stop eating, have stomach problems and so the list goes on. Small problems they used to have may become more pronounced. Maybe they can’t sleep or develop a sudden fear of animals, they may become frightened of going to the doctor, they may not want to leave the house etc. Parents are doing their best to help but it doesn’t change much for the child.

The process of hypnotherapy is very relaxing but at the same time releases anxiety and fear, and is a therapy that can completely change the outlook on life.

Panic Attacks

panic attacks help cure hypnosisAnybody who’s ever been so scared that they thought they might die knows what it feels like having a panic attack. It’s a dreadful feeling; ones heart will be thumping and there is great fear.

In many cases people have no idea what the cause of the attack may be. It seems to come out of the blue for no apparent reason and it is a very frightening experience. Hypnotherapy can be a great help when dealing with panic attacks and anxiety.

Mostly, though not always, a panic attacks begins with a feeling of fear or panic which is then rapidly followed by a number of physical symptoms. These can be nausea, intense sweating or palpitations. It is so terrifying that breathing often accelerates and so adding more symptoms. The attacks themselves can be short-lived but can also come and go for a much longer length of time. They are terrifying for the person who suffers but they are not life threatening though it may feel like it.
Clients describe their symptoms in various ways. Here are some that I hear about frequently: feeling sick, feeling dizzy, chest pain, head hurts, shortness of breath, heart thumping, sweating. The reasons for a panic attack is always great anxiety and of course a fear of dying.

Sometimes the reasons for these attacks are known or clients remember when they started and what triggers them often though they seem to come from nowhere. Hypnotherapy can certainly help find out the root causes and release them.

Hypnotherapy is extremely effective when working with anxiety and panic attacks. Rather than just giving suggestions which is what usually happens in a hypnotherapy session we will always aim to release the underlying root causes. Nobody is meant to suffer panic attacks or anxiety, so there should be no need to manage these attacks but simply eliminate them. It is easy to give a client advice on how to breathe, how to avoid triggering substances and of course reminding them that even though it feels bad there is no physical danger. However, this means nothing to somebody who suffers pain and fear and is constantly worried that it may happen again. The best thing to do is to work on the underlying causes and release them. I have done many, many sessions and it is life changing.

Ornithophobia Fear of Birds

Ornithophobia Fear of BirdsDo you need help with your Fear of Birds?

If you suffer from a fear of birds you might be very uncomfortable around them or even extremely frightened. Some people are frightened of all sorts of birds while for others it is only a certain variety that causes distress. When faced with confronting a bird it may be that you start shaking or are unable to move. It is extremely difficult to avoid birds completely as they are free animals and can appear seemingly out from nowhere. For many people it is the flapping of the wings that causes the anxiety.

People who are frightened of them tend to avoid areas that are likely to be inhabited by birds, such as seagulls at beach resorts or places in town where one would find many pigeons. This obviously means that they find it difficult to leave their home and they can develop agoraphobia as well. Some cases of fear are related to when children were faced with aggressive birds such as seagulls or ducks asking for food. Sometimes it can be the parents that exhibit fear which too can trigger a phobia. Sometimes it is seeing a dead bird that causes the fear or suddenly being faced with a bird that flies in through a window or bashes against a window.

Sabine Stone Beverley HypnosisA fear of our feathered friends "the birds" is not an uncommon fear but when left untreated it could become life-limiting, and as a rule it gets worse as a person gets older. Hypnotherapy and regression therapy are excellent ways of releasing such a phobia, either through working on and neutralising the cause of the fear, or through softening the anxieties associated with birds by using hypnotic relaxation and suggestions. Generally, I use both methods (sometimes combined with EFT and NLP techniques), and I have had a lot of success over the years in terms of freeing people from the life-limiting effects of phobias.
