Personal Change

Sabine StoneOften personal change seems much harder than it ought to be. People may have accomplished many projects successfully only to feel disappointed in themselves when they cannot do something that seems minor in comparison. What makes it worse is when friends or acquaintances explain that all it needs is willpower, the willpower to stop certain eating habits, to stop snacking at night, to not smoke the last cigarette at the end of the day, to choose different relationships.

In fact, there is no need for any negative self-evaluation. When we have habits that resist all our effort to change it just means that our conscious mind is in an argument with our ‘inner being’. Personal changes usually require the cooperation of our deeper mind. The subconscious always seems to be much stronger. In hypnosis, we can change subconscious habits that are no longer helpful.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder OCD

OCDs and the behaviours that go along with it are always just symptoms. They begin in a moment of fear, helplessness or vulnerability, usually, but not always, in childhood. In hypnosis we are able to go back to the moment when the OCD started.

Teeth grinding – Bruxism

teeth grinding problem helpBruxism is the term used for grinding and clenching the jaw. It can lead to damaged teeth but also to headaches, gum problems, tight shoulders and even earache. Some people are aware they are doing it as it happens for them while awake others don’t notice as it occurs while sleeping. They are told by partners but also notice the tension in their jaws when waking up.

Hypnosis can be very effective as it will release the tension that is causing the teeth grinding. Anxiety and tension are often the causes of bruxism. Hypnotherapy helps to get to the root cause of the problem and of course release it too. It also helps you find better ways of dealing with tension and coping with difficult situations.

Tension and anxiety are just some of the reasons that cause teeth grinding. Hypnosis can help you to change certain thought patterns and of course lower tension and release anxiety. Teeth grinding lets you know that your body is suffering stress and anxiety.

Hypnosis to Stop Smoking

Tobacco has been around for centuries but it is only been fairly recently known that smoking can be harmful. There is so much evidence that points to the danger of smoking and yet people still find it a habit that is difficult to stop. There are hundreds of reasons why people smoke, for example boredom, peer pressure, problems in life, work, alcohol etc. Smoking can become addictive quite quickly as nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known to man.

For most smokers it takes a little more than sheer willpower to break this habit. Hypnotherapy is a VERY effective way to help stop smoking. Remember, it is never too late to stop smoking and become a non-smoker! Once you stop smoking your body can recover and reverse some of the damaging effects that nicotine and the other toxic chemicals in cigarettes have had on it. Usually, after only a few hours after someone stops smoking their body will already begin a healing process.

stop smoking HypnotherapyThere are many reasons why becoming a non-smoker may be good for you. The chances are that it will increase your life expectancy. Your body will receive more oxygen which means you are going to feel more energetic and more alert. Smokers are often more susceptible to colds. Your immune system will get stronger once you stop smoking. Depending on the number of cigarettes you smoke it is highly likely that you will save a fair amount of money (perhaps several thousands of pounds a year). Not smoking will definitely increase relaxation in your body and you will be able to handle life in a calmer way (do not believe that smoking relaxes you - IT DOES NOT!! It is physically impossible to inject thousands of toxic chemicals into your blood stream and expect your body to relax). For some people it becomes noticeable that their skin and hair condition improves and that complexion looks better.

Hypnotherapy, or to the point "Hypnosis to Stop Smoking", when done well is a great way to stop smoking as it is incredibly effective feels good and will enhance your life. Most people who come to me are able to become smoke-free after only one session. Many of my previous clients have commented on how easy they found it to become a non-smoker after they used hypnosis. So, there’s no need to struggle with trying to give up smoking; simply use hypnotherapy to Stop Smoking and the power of your sub-conscious mind to successfully become smoke-free.

Stop Smoking with Hypnotherapy – Hypnosis in Hull and Beverley

Hypnotherapy for smoking is one of the most effective ways to stop an unwanted habit whether you're in Hull or Beverley. It is important that you want to stop smoking for yourself rather than for your partner or friends. At times when somebody else is asking you to stop and pushing you it can be a little more difficult to get a positive result.
Hypnotherapy works by entering into a very relaxed state, a trance-like state when the mind is more open to suggestions. The therapist can introduce new thought patterns and generally tell you all the things you know on a conscious level, such as that smoking can be bad for your health, its smelly and expensive etc. As the body and mind are so relaxed the subconscious takes it on and new thought patterns can be introduced.
Many people have some worries about stopping smoking of which the most common one is that they’ll gain weight instead. However, if smoking gets replaced with anything else than the client hasn’t really stopped a habit but simply acquired another one. It is important to address this during the hypnotherapy session. Smoking used to be a social activity, and was often used as an excuse to smoke. This has changed quite dramatically so over the last 10 years especially since the smoking ban in public places around Beverley, Hull and the whole UK.

Beneath are some of the benefits of stopping smoking:

  • More energy (carbon monoxide makes it harder for your body to function fully. More oxygen will help you feel more alert and awake)
  • Healthier immune system (often have fewer colds)
More money (just calculate how many cigarettes you smoke per day and you’ll find that you make a considerate saving each month)
  • Breathing (difficulties in breathing change rapidly after stopping smoking)
  • Better looking skin (Smoking can age the skin. After stopping you find that the complexion gets brighter)

Ultimately, stopping smoking can help you to live a longer, healthier life. It’s never too late to become a non-smoker with Hypnotherapy or Hypnosis in Hull and Beverley

Nailbiting

stop biting nailsNail biting is a very common habit. It tends to start in childhood and continuous throughout adult life. Many nail biters are embarrassed about their habit. The habit is usually made worse by stress or anxiety. It is an unconscious behaviour and many people bite their nails in inappropriate situations.

Hypnotherapy can help you to relax, help you to cope with stressful situations. Hypnosis can help you to break this unconscious habit.

No matter how much you make up your mind to stop biting your nails, quietly your hands creep toward your mouth and before you know it, you’re chewing again. Conscious decisions can be powerful but often the problem is that you haven’t addressed the need that drives you to nail bite.

Stopping or Habit Breaking

I help clients regularly to take control of their lives by breaking frustrating habits. Have you had enough of being dictated to by a cigarette? Have you tried quitting but it just didn’t work out? Are you using artificial cigarettes that are full of chemicals? Or maybe you stopped and suddenly feel very anxious all the time? Or just maybe you managed to stop only to put on weight?

Most habits have an emotional root cause which is the reason why many habits are difficult to break. Hypnosis is very effective in breaking subconscious associations. An example of this could be someone who can’t stop themselves from over-eating or snacking. The reason for these negative habits could be because of boredom, loneliness or anxiety, etc.

If a person tries to change these habits by simply using willpower, the chances are that at some point the will-power will fade because all the emotions causing the problem are still there and the over-eating and snacking will come back. A behaviour, such as overeating, smoking, nail-biting, etc. doesn’t satisfy the feeling, all it does is distract from the feeling for a short time. However, with hypnosis it is possible to tackle both, behaviour and emotion, at the same time and take control of one’s eating habits.
